I grew up in Chicago and attended the United States Naval Academy to obtain my commission in the Navy. I graduated in 2006 as a Surface Warfare Officer and over the next seven years served on DDG-72 Mahan, deployed to Iraq as an Electronic Warfare Officer, and served on Navy Staff at the Pentagon in International Engagement. Deciding it was time to transition, I started researching business schools during my final tour and, after meeting Stern's veterans community, I knew NYU was exactly where I wanted to go. I decided Investment Banking was the right choice moving forward because of its parallels to my naval career and because I think it is an important profession with a broad impact on the national and global economies.
Greg Vadala, Class of 2016
Originally from Bergen County, New Jersey, I graduated from the United States Military Academy in 2007 with a BS in Political Science. After graduation, I served in the Army for seven years as a Military Intelligence Officer including two deployments to Afghanistan. I saw business school as the bridge between my career in the Army and my future in the business world. Stern's finance pedigree, unrivaled location, and military-friendly environment position it as an exceptional launch-pad for military veterans looking to transition. I look forward to pursuing rotational leadership programs within the financial services industry as it allows me to leverage the leadership abilities I cultivated in the military while applying all that I've learned while at Stern.
Billy Knapp, Class of 2016
I grew up on Long Island and later attended the United States Naval Academy. Upon graduation, I was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. After three combat tours and nine years of service, I decided to make my transition out of the military. Originally from NY, I knew I wanted to attend a top business school that would not only prepare me for my future career, but was also close to home. Although undecided about my future career path, I am extremely thankful for the countless opportunities to explore many different options while here at Stern.
Adam Bowie, Class of 2016
VP of Finance and Operations
I commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in 2009 after graduating from Temple University. As a Ground Intelligence Officer, I received orders to 2d Tank Battalion at MCB Camp Lejeune and later attached to Third Battalion, Eighth Marines to serve on a police advisor team in Afghanistan. Now pursuing a career in investment banking, Stern's strong finance department along with its relationship with top investment banks made it the logical next step. From conversations with veterans in financial services, I found that a strong finance background would complement the leadership skills I developed in the Marines. Also, the combined skillset would serve me well regardless of whether I decided to remain an investment banker or transitioned into another function.
Jason Neas, Class of 2016
VP of Admissions
After graduating from Marist College in 2005, I was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps. and went to flight school where I earned my Naval Aviator wings and became a CH-53E pilot. While stationed in San Diego with the Flying Tigers (HMH-361), I deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan and with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard the U.S.S. Pelelieu. Growing up in Rockaway Beach, NY, I knew I wanted to return to the city for school. Stern was my top choice of business schools because of its location, financial strength and professional network. It has proved to be an excellent platform for transitioning to civilian life. I am pursuing investment management and entrepreneurial ventures.
Sam Kies, Class of 2016
VP of Events Originally from Old Greenwich, CT, I commissioned as an Army Infantry officer after graduating from Wake Forest University. During my six years, I served in the 10th Mountain Division, where I deployed to Iraq and was assigned to the Ranger Training Brigade. While I loved my time in the Army, I ultimately felt that it was the right time to make the transition to the private sector and saw business school as the best way to make that transition. I applied to Stern because I wanted to go to a great school and be close to my family and friends in NYC. The City is full of incredible professional, cultural, and social opportunities. As I got to know the school and the people, it became clear to me that I wanted to spend my two years here exploring those opportunities with fellow Sternies. While initially unsure of what path to follow, my experiences in my first year led me to pursue a career in investment banking.
Evelyn Zhang, Class of 2016
Originally from Boston, MA, I graduated from West Point in 2009. After graduation, I served five years in the US Army as an IT officer deployed to Afghanistan under Operation Enduring Freedom. Throughout my life, I have always been passionate about all things pop culture. I knew I wanted to turn this hobby into a career after the Army, but I did not know how to get there. I realized that I needed to be in NYU Stern's world-famous entertainment media specialization, which offers entertainment business courses taught by industry professionals. Plus, nothing beats going to school in New York City where the top media companies are just a subway ride away!
